Biker killed in A696 road sign crash in Northumberland

A man has died after the motorcycle he was riding hit a road sign in Northumberland.

Andrew Turnbull, 45, of Alnwick Street, Wallsend, was travelling south on the A696 near Belsay on Sunday, when his Kawasaki bike left the road.

He was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary with multiple injuries, but later pronounced dead.

The road was closed for more than four hours while crash investigators examined the scene.
