Man charged over Ouston Junction rail line cable theft

A man has been charged over the theft of more than 980ft (300m) of cable from a railway line in County Durham.

The cable, worth an estimated £34,000, was taken from a stretch of line near Ouston Junction over the course of a week in July.

British Transport Police said a 21-year-old man from the Barley Mow area of Gateshead had been charged with two counts of theft.

A spokesman said the man was due before magistrates in Consett on 28 August.
