Metro shut at South Gosforth for track replacement

Services on one of the busiest stretches of the Tyne and Wear Metro are to be suspended for six days.

The lines between South Gosforth and Regent Centre and between South Gosforth and Benton will be shut from Sunday while the track is replaced.

The junction is where the line splits between the coast and Newcastle Airport and is used by 450 trains a day.

Nexus, which owns and manages the network, will operate a replacement bus service until 3 November.

It said the closure was timed to coincide with the half-term school break in order to minimise the level of disruption.
