A British man who allegedly threatened to kill 200 people in America will face further charges, a court has heard.

Reece Elliott, 24, from South Shields, is alleged to have made the threat in February on a Facebook memorial to a Tennessee girl killed in a road crash.

South Tyneside magistrates heard he will now face five separate charges of making threats to kill and nine charges under the Communications Act.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Newcastle Crown Court in April.

The court was told the day after the comments were made, 3,000 children did not attend classes in Warren County and security was beefed up at local schools.

There was no application for bail for Mr Elliott, who has been in custody since his arrest and first court appearance on 9 February.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction in the case.

No pleas have yet been entered.
