Christopher Owens named as South Shields ecstasy victim

A 20-year-old man who died after taking a "potentially homemade" ecstasy tablet has been named.

He was Christopher Owens, of Lumley Avenue, South Shields, South Tyneside.

He died at South Tyneside Hospital on Sunday after taking what is thought to have been a pale green tablet.

An inquest was opened and adjourned at South Tyneside Coroners' Court, in Hebburn, on Monday and Northumbria Police has issued a warning on the danger of taking illegal drugs.
