Sopefoluwa Peters case: Accidental death verdict for student

The death of a Durham University student found in the River Wear was accidental, an inquest has found.

Sopefoluwa Peters, who was 20, went missing on 29 October. His body was found on 8 December.

His disappearance sparked a major search, with members of his family travelling from northern Virginia in the United States to assist.

Mr Peters, known as Sope, was a second-year economics student at Hatfield College at the university.

Coroner Andrew Tweddle recorded a verdict of accidental death.
