Operation Sanctuary: Police charge man with rape of girl

An 18-year-old man has been charged with two counts of rape of a female under 16 in Newcastle.

Northumbria Police said it received a report of a teenage girl being raped in Walker on Sunday.

The 18-year-old man will appear before Newcastle Magistrates' later.

The man was charged as part of Operation Sanctuary, an investigation into allegations of sexual crime against vulnerable women and girls on Tyneside.
