The Queen's Baton Relay event's first port of call in the North East will be the Angel of the North.

The baton arrives on 13 June ahead of the Commonwealth Games and will be carried by Great North Run creator Brendan Foster and triple jumper Jonathan Edwards.

After starting at the Angel, the baton will be carried to Gateshead Stadium and then on to the Millennium Bridge.

The relay was launched by the Queen at Buckingham Palace last year.

After visiting the Millennium Bridge it will then be carried to Newcastle Civic Centre before finally reaching the Walker Activity Dome.

The relay has been the Commonwealth Games' curtain raiser since 1958.

The baton will have visited 70 Commonwealth nations and territories ahead of the opening ceremony in Glasgow on 23 July.
