Glen Patterson sectioned after killing father and grandmother

A man has been detained indefinitely in hospital for killing his father and grandmother at a North Tyneside house earlier this year.

Glen Patterson was charged with murdering Ray Patterson, 61, and Clara Patterson, 82, in February.

Their bodies were found at their home in Front Street, Benton.

However, prosecutors accepted the 25-year-old's guilty plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter by virtue of diminished responsibility.

Patterson is being held in Broadmoor's high-security hospital under section 37 of the Mental Health Act.
