Police pursuit crash man was 'big personality'
A man who died in a car crash while being pursued by police was a "big personality", his family has said.
Adam Wilkinson was a passenger in a VW Bora Sport which hit a lamppost off the B6309 at Ebchester Bank, County Durham, on Monday.
The 39-year-old, from Consett, died, and the driver was injured.
Mr Wilkinson's family described him as "loving and dedicated... a generous, thoughtful man, who would help anyone at any time".
The family statement added: "Adam was a big personality, known and loved locally.
"He was a local business man who employed local people within the community."
His eldest daughter, Rebecca, said: "My dad was and always will be the main man in my life.
"I will always be daddy's girl and I will live my life to make him proud."
Officers had been responding to reports of two men seen behaving suspiciously at the Tesco supermarket in Consett at about midnight on Monday.
They then followed the vehicle in which Mr Wilkinson was travelling, after it failed to stop when signalled.
The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
