Tyneside Metro worker dies in ladder plunge

A Metro worker has died falling from a ladder at the Tyneside headquarters.

Service operator Nexus said the man had been working near the tracks at its Christon Road base in Gosforth when he fell on Sunday. An investigation is now under way.

The man was treated at the scene but died later of his injuries.

Train services were halted for a short time, but have now resumed. The Office Of Rail Regulation has been informed.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "Police, fire and paramedics attended and the man was treated by ambulance staff but has died as a result of his injuries."
