Man dies in Newcastle from suspected drug-taking

A man has died from a suspected "fatal reaction" to a drug taken at a party in Newcastle, police have said.

The 18-year-old was found disoriented in the street by police, who were called to Pinewood Close at 13:40 BST after concerns were raised for his welfare.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he later died.

Police believe his death may be linked to a drug he may have taken at a party on Monday night.

Officers are urging anyone else who might have taken drugs at the party on Stuart Court to go to hospital immediately before contacting the police.

Ch Insp Peter Bent from the Northumbria force said: "The initial police investigation indicates that he may have taken some kind of drug and that he has had a fatal reaction to the substance.

"We do not yet know what he has taken or if anyone else has taken it.

"That's why we need anyone who was at this party in Stuart Court to contact us and if they have taken any drugs there to go to hospital immediately and get checked out."
