Two men arrested after Washington assault death

Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a man who was assaulted outside a bar in Washington.

John Potts, 45, from Sunderland, was found with a head injury near NE38 Sports Bar in Barmston at 00:50 GMT.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Northumbria Police have arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of murder and a 29-year-old man on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Acting Det Ch Insp Andy Fairlamb said Mr Potts' death followed a "disturbance" involving a group of men in the street.

He appealed for witnesses.
