Wallsend taxi driver David Hope killed helping at A19 crash scene

A man has been arrested after a taxi driver who stopped to help at the scene of a crash was struck and killed by a passing vehicle.

David Hope, 43, reported a car had hit the central reservation on the A19 in North Tyneside on Saturday.

Mr Hope, from Wallsend, got out of his vehicle on the dual carriageway near Killingworth.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been informed as a "matter of protocol", Northumbria Police said.
