Man held over rape of woman in Northumberland lay-by

A man has been arrested after a teenager was raped in Northumberland.

The 18-year-old was walking along the footpath of the A197, near Morpeth Golf Club, in the early hours of 4 February, when a man stopped his car and offered her a lift.

She accepted, but after travelling a short distance he pulled into a lay-by and raped her.

Northumbria Police said a 55-year-old man had been arrested and later bailed pending further enquiries.
