Shaun O'Connell named as motorcyclist killed in crash

A motorcyclist who died in a crash in Northumberland has been named by police.

Shaun O'Connell, from Throckley, died when his Honda motorbike and a blue Ford S-Max car crashed on the A696 near Kirkwhelpington near Otterburn.

The vehicles collided at about 09:10 BST on Thursday and the 33-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement Mr O'Connell's family said they were "devastated". The car driver is in a stable condition.

"We are a motorbike family - we all love to go out on the bikes and this was just an ordinary day. Sadly everything has now changed," Mr O'Connell's family added.

Northumbria Police is continuing to appeal for witnesses.
