Man killed in Stanley double stabbing

One man has been killed and another is critically ill after a double stabbing in a house in County Durham.

Police said the victims were stabbed in the kitchen of a house in Edward Terrace, New Kyo, Stanley, during a "disturbance" on Saturday afternoon.

A 30-year-old man died of his injuries and a 27-year-old man is in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A 23-year-old has been arrested in connection with the attacks. Police are appealing for information.

Det Supt Neil Malkin, of Durham Police, said the property's kitchen is overlooked by homes in Coronation Terrace and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
