Man in court over stabbing of brothers in Stanley

A 23-year-old man has appeared before magistrates charged with murder and attempted murder after two brothers were stabbed in County Durham.

The pair were injured in a house in Edward Terrace, New Kyo, Stanley, on Saturday afternoon.

Daniel Laidlaw, 30, died as a result of his injuries. Christopher Laidlaw, 27, remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

John Donnison, of no fixed abode, was remanded in custody until 21 July.

He will next appear at Newcastle Crown Court.
