Sunderland boy's jaw broken in unprovoked assault

A teenage boy suffered a broken jaw in an unprovoked attack in Sunderland.

The 16-year-old was in Elmwood Avenue, near the playing fields in Marley Potts, when he was set upon by one of a gang of boys on Sunday.

Northumbria Police said he was attacked for no reason and had to receive treatment at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

His attacker was aged about 17, with short black hair, broad shoulders and wearing dark-coloured tracksuit bottoms.
