Inmate in court over prison officer Durham jail attacks

An inmate has appeared in court accused of the attempted murder of two prisoner officers at a County Durham jail.

Kevan Thakrar appeared via videolink at Newcastle Crown Court charged with two counts of attempted murder and one of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

A female and two male officers were injured at HMP Frankland, in Durham, on 13 March.

A plea and case management hearing for the 23-year-old was set for December.

The trial is expected to start in June 2011.
