Durham Police seize alcohol from youths
Police have confiscated alcohol from youngsters during a crackdown in a County Durham suburb.
The move follows dozens of complaints from Belmont residents about the anti-social behaviour of gangs of youths.
During a patrol over the weekend, 32 cans of lager and cider were taken from eight 14 and 15-year-olds.
The teenagers were interviewed by staff from the Youth Offending Service, before their parents were contacted and asked to pick them up.
A Durham Police spokesman said that the parents were "on the whole very supportive".
He said: "None had any clue where their sons and daughters had gone that night and were shocked to discover they had been drinking in public."
