The victim of a sex assault in County Durham managed to bite her attacker on the hand, police have revealed.
The 21-year-old woman was left "traumatised" after she was attacked while walking home on North Road, Chester-le-Street, early on Saturday.
Durham Police said she was approached by a man who asked her for directions before grabbing her and subjecting her to a serious sexual assault.
Detectives have now revealed the woman bit the man on one of his hands.
Det Insp Nev Carmen said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the young victim who bit one of her attacker's hands.
"A Nissan Micra car was seen in the vicinity and we are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who knows a man who has access to such a vehicle and may have sustained a hand injury during the early hours of Saturday."
