A Wearside plumber and his care worker wife have become multi-millionaires after scooping a £3.5m lottery jackpot on Christmas Day.

Paul Goldie, 51, and wife Christine, 48, have already ordered two new cars and are looking for a new home.

The couple, from Washington, near Sunderland, netted £3,581,481 in the 25 December draw.

Mr Goldie said he was so shocked when he discovered the win that he was unable to eat his Christmas dinner.

Mr Goldie said he was ditching his 16-year-old Volvo, which he has not moved off the drive for a year because he cannot afford to run it.

He revealed he had already ordered two new Audis and is also looking to buy a new home.

But the pair have pledged to stay close to where they currently live.
