Masked man with weapon robs store in Sunderland

A man wearing a mask and armed with an axe-type weapon robbed an off-licence in Sunderland.

The man, who wore camouflage clothing, struck at Jimmy's Off Licence in Hendon Valley Road, Hendon on Monday.

He demanded staff fill a bag but they refused and the man made off in the direction of Villette Road.

Nothing was stolen from the store. The member of staff was unhurt, but left shaken by the incident. Police have asked witnesses to contact them.
