A £2m refurbishment scheme has been completed at sheltered housing in Darlington.

Work at Windsor Court, on Newton Lane, has taken a year. All 33 flats have been re-wired and had new kitchens and bathrooms installed with level access showers.

A new heating system has been installed and two flats have been converted to be fully wheelchair accessible.

All the communal areas have also been upgraded.

There is a new seating area, including a coffee bar and sun room, as well as outside landscaping and new garden water features.

'Lease of life'

The new-look complex also has two lifts and a guest room.

An open day is being held on Monday to give family and friends and other interested people the chance to see what work has taken place.

Bill Dixon, Darlington council's cabinet member for neighbourhood services, said: "The work at Windsor Court is absolutely fantastic and has given the complex a new lease of life.

"I am sure the residents will enjoy the facilities and their new-look homes."
