Body found in County Durham cave is identified

A body found in a cave in County Durham has been formally identified as that of a 67-year-old man.

John Chapman went missing from his home in Carville last July.

His remains were found on 19 April by children exploring the area in Beacon Hill, Pittington, which is popular with walkers.

Durham Police said that his family had been informed and an inquest into the death, which is not thought to be suspicious, will be held in due course.
