Bogus fears over County Durham taxi items theft

Taxi passengers have been warned to be on their guard against bogus drivers after several cab signs were stolen in County Durham.

A "for hire" green neon sign and a "R M Taxis" white sign were stolen from vehicles parked in Framwellgate Moor.

A taxi two-way radio was also taken from another cab in Chester-le-Street.

Durham Police said it was believed they were stolen to commit further offences, and advised people to ensure drivers were genuine by checking their badges.

Anyone with information about the thefts, which happened overnight on Tuesday and on Wednesday, is asked to contact the force.
