Man trying to retrieve dog killed by train in Wiltshire

A man has died after being struck by a train on a level crossing in Wiltshire while trying to retrieve his dog from the tracks.

Michael Hardy, 71, was hit by the 1310 BST Bristol Temple Meads to London Waterloo service near Codford station on Wednesday.

British Transport Police and paramedics attended the incident, and Mr Hardy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

Mr Hardy, a retired estate agent, was from the Wokingham area.

A file has been prepared for the coroner.
