Fate of Wiltshire special needs centres to be decided

The fate of six special needs centres will be decided by Wiltshire Council later.

Four of the centres - those attached to Durrington, Harnham and Mere primary schools and Zouch School in Tidworth - have been earmarked for closure.

Facilities at Malmesbury and Longleaze primary, at Wootton Bassett, are expected to remain open.

The decision follows a review into how children with special educational needs are taught in the area.

Wiltshire Council has said the action is not about cutting costs, but using tax payers' cash better to support children with special educational needs.

The council has proposed providing the service within existing mainstream schools.
