Man bailed over Wiltshire pub fire

A man has appeared in court over a fire in a Wiltshire pub which started when a petrol can was set alight.

The owner of The Jovial Monk pub in Blunsdon St Andrew found a window had been smashed and a can set alight inside at 0200 BST on Saturday.

Paul Stevenson, 44, from Standen Way, Swindon, appeared before magistrates in the town on Monday charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

He was released on bail to appear at Swindon Crown Court on 22 October.

The fire in the pub was put out by the owner, who used a fire extinguisher after throwing the petrol can out through the broken window.
