A new design for a bridge in Bradford-on-Avon has been put forward by two conservation groups in Wiltshire.

The design is an alternative to the town council's proposal which already has planning permission in place to build the £850,000 structure.

A public consultation over the new design is being held at the town's library until 23 October.

Bradford on Avon Preservation Trust and Bradford Bridge Concern have asked for feedback on their bridge named Unity 3.

The alternative design was put forward by the conservation groups because they believed the original cable stay structure was not in keeping with the town's architecture.

However, the town council said it had not received details from the groups over the costs of the alternative proposal and was not able to make an informed decision on its viability.
