A 44-year-old driver is in hospital with serious internal injuries after a crash on the A350 in Wiltshire.
He was in a Rover which was in collision with a Land Rover Discovery at the Stoney Gutter crossroads near Trowbridge on Saturday afternoon.
Police said the Rover was then shunted into a stationary Volvo estate.
The Rover driver was taken to Bath's Royal United Hospital for surgery. The other two drivers were treated for minor injuries.
The road was closed for four hours while the emergency services dealt with the accident and to allow repairs to be made to the damaged traffic lights.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened just after 1430 BST on Saturday.
