Devizes church gets 'messy' to encourage family worship
A church in Wiltshire has taken up the idea of a "messy church" in an attempt to make Sunday worship more attractive to families with children.
St James Church in Devizes is offering craft activities and now has a full-time children and families worker who leads the special sessions.
"Messy church" is a national organisation which began in 2004 in Portsmouth.
It aims to make it easier for families to attend Sunday services.
Becky Sedgewick, children and families worker, at St James Church, said: "It's very noisy and quite messy.
"It engages families who are otherwise on the fringe of church but for whom church on Sunday doesn't appeal or can't work."
