Ice risk as rain freezes on Wiltshire's roads

Rain freezing as it falls on frozen roads has led to dangerous conditions in parts of Wiltshire.

A Wiltshire Council spokesman said although temperatures had risen slightly drivers should not assume the roads were clear of ice.

Police said there were 18 weather-related accidents between Friday evening and noon on Saturday.

Weather forecasters said they expect more rain on Saturday with the risk of this again freezing overnight.

Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is renewing its warning for people not to walk on ice.

A spokesman said firefighters had been called out on "numerous occasions" to help people who had fallen into water in recent winters.

They were often trying to rescue dogs. The spokesman urged people to keep their pets on a lead.
