Dog is rescued from frozen lake in Swindon

Firefighters in Swindon have praised a number of passers-by for not attempting to rescue a dog which had fallen through ice.

Crews were called to Stanton Park on Saturday morning after reports a black labrador was trapped in the water.

A Wiltshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said once officers arrived the rescue took less than five minutes.

"They took the right course of action by calling 999 and not entering the icy water," the spokesman said.

The fire service spokesman also reiterated the brigade's advice for people to stay off ice-covered lakes.
