Wiltshire man punched in face after chasing burglars

A man was attacked by burglars after he chased them from his Wiltshire home.

The victim was returning to his house in Kingston St Michael, Chippenham, on Wednesday night when he noticed a light being switched on and off.

He chased two men who ran into a field behind the property. The homeowner was punched in the face and suffered a broken nose and lost some of his teeth. He needed hospital treatment.

A number of items of jewellery and a wallet were taken in the burglary.

'Ring 999'

Investigations showed that the men had forced their way in through a kitchen window.

Officers including dog handlers and the police helicopter failed to trace them.

Sgt Alex Reid, of Wiltshire Police, said: "If people believe there is someone in their home unlawfully we would always advice them to ring 999 rather than attempt to tackle anyone themselves, especially if there is more than one offender."

The two men were described as being fairly tall and were believed to be in their 30s.
