A serving soldier has been charged with the murder of a man found unconscious in a pub car park in Wiltshire.

Daryl Talbot, 21, from Larkhill, appeared at Chippenham Magistrates' Court charged with the murder of 34-year-old Jon Paul Garland.

Mr Garland died at the scene in Amesbury in the early hours of 1 January. Preliminary post-mortem tests found he had internal head injuries.

Mr Talbot is due to appear at Winchester Crown Court on 5 January.

Police said a 19-year-old woman arrested in connection with the death had been released on bail without charge pending further inquiries.

Ambulance crews were called to the car park next to the New Inn in High Street, Amesbury, where they found Mr Garland, from Tanner's Field in Amesbury, collapsed on the ground.

Paramedics attempted to revive him but he died at the scene.
