Afghanistan stowaways found on Swindon-bound lorry

Six stowaways have been discovered hiding among car parts on a lorry bound for Swindon.

UK Border Agency officers used a heartbeat detector to locate the men, all from Afghanistan, in Coquelles, near Calais in France a week ago.

They were handed over to French border police and the Slovak-registered lorry was allowed to continue its journey.

A spokesman said drivers and firms could be fined if they could not prove they had tried to secure vehicles.
