More roads in rural Wiltshire could end up with a 20mph speed limit if new trials are successful.
The trials designed to improve road safety in the county are taking place over the next 18 months in Biddestone, Great Cheverall, and Great Bedwyn.
If the project is deemed a success, it could be rolled out in other villages in the county by Wiltshire Council.
Similar trials in Bristol and Hull have been successful and the project is being encouraged by the government.
Martin Rose, principle highways engineer at Wiltshire Council said this was "the first step."
"It's an experimental limit, and we'll be going back over the next 18 months to review it and look at the after speeds and decide what action we can take to bring those speeds down," he said.
