A man has been jailed for more than 11 years after pleading guilty to an attempted murder in Swindon.

Andrew Carty, 47, of County Road, Swindon, was arrested in November 2010 after a man was stabbed a number of times on Manchester Road.

Mr Carty pleaded guilty to the charge in May and was sentenced to 11 years and three months in jail at Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday.

He praised the quick work of the paramedics who saved the victim.
