Murder suspect Edino Carvalho found hanged in prison cell

A man charged with murdering a Goan man in Swindon has died after being found hanging in his prison cell.

Wiltshire Police said Edino Carvalho was discovered in Bristol Prison on Saturday and taken to hospital.

He had been charged with killing José Pereira, 40, who was stabbed to death in Manchester Road in the town in May.

The force spokesman said Mr Carvalho had been put on a life support machine but was pronounced dead on Tuesday. Mr Pereira's family have been informed.

Police said an investigation into Mr Carvalho's death would be conducted by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.
