Salisbury fire: Man arrested for attempted murder

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a fire at a flat in Wiltshire.

Crews were called to a fire on the second floor landing of a block of flats in Middleton Road, Salisbury at about 03:00 GMT on Sunday.

Wiltshire Police said no-one was injured but a number of residents were unable to return to their homes.

A 43-year-old man from Orcheston, near Salisbury, has been arrested and is being questioned by officers.

Det Ch Insp Ian Saunders said: "I believe that someone could have been seriously hurt were it not for the quick actions by resident and the prompt response from the fire service.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area of Middleton Road, between the hours of midnight and 3.15 on Sunday morning."
