Military ordnance found near Salisbury Plain still being assessed

Emergency services are continuing to assess a piece of military ordnance found near Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire.

The Army, police and firefighters were called in after it was found by contractors in Chitterne on Tuesday.

Officers said it does not pose an explosive risk, but it is believed to be venting phosphorus.

Police said people living in the nearby villages of Chitterne, Codford-St Mary, Codford-St Peter and Codford should stay indoors and keep windows closed.

Wiltshire Police said military personnel are expected to dispose of the device later.
