Planning permission has been granted for a quarry on a Wiltshire estate where a BBC drama was filmed.

Wiltshire Council approved the reopening of Park Lane quarry under Neston at a meeting earlier.

Ham and Doulting Stone Ltd has a permit to mine Bath stone and is to build a new access road off Rough Street to the east of the village.

The underground quarry is below Neston Park, the estate where Lark Rise to Candleford was shot.

The application attracted more than 40 letters of objection from residents concerned about HGV traffic through Neston village.

But despite objections from local residents a Wiltshire Council spokeswoman said the application was "approved as per the recommendations".

Operations at the site have been dormant since the 1960s and the original route to the underground workings, Park Lane, is now a designated bridleway.
