A motorcyclist and pillion passenger have been injured after apparently being blown off their motorbike by strong winds on the M4 in Wiltshire.

The incident happened between junctions 16 and 15 at about 11:45 BST on Monday, Great Western Ambulance Service said.

The female rider and her male passenger, both thought to be in their fifties, were taken to Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

The rider has suffered "potentially serious" head injuries, police said.

Her passenger received injuries to his head and back, but his condition is not thought to be life threatening, the ambulance service said.

The motorway was closed eastbound for several hours.
