Wiltshire School of Gymnastic gets £400,000 council grant

A gymnastics centre has received a £400,000 grant from Wiltshire Council to help improve facilities.

The Wiltshire School of Gymnastics in Melksham (WSG) will use the money to build an extra sprung floor.

Floor space will also be increased by 30% to allow more room for beam, bars, vault and trampolining.

WSG trustee, Peter Bates, said: "We are delighted that Wiltshire Council realises the additional potential that the club offers."

The gym, which operates as a charity, has also raised an additional £95,000 towards the refurbishment.

Although the money has been awarded to WSG, the expansion plans will need to secure planning permission before work can begin.

Club trustees hope the expansion will help bring more national competitions to the venue in the future and aim to complete the project in 2013.
