M4 fuel spillage between Swindon junctions causes delays

Motorists in part of Wiltshire experienced long delays after an accident left the M4 partially closed at Swindon.

A lorry hit the central reservation in the early hours leaving a fuel spillage on the westbound carriageway.

Although the lorry was recovered the motorway could not be used until the diesel was cleared from the road surface.

The M4 reopened just before 11:00 BST but traffic took some time to clear.

No-one from the Highways Agency could be contacted about the incident.
