Plan for 197-acre solar farm in Melksham rejected

A planning application to build a solar farm on 17 fields in Wiltshire has been rejected.

Sandridge Solar Power wanted to use 197 acres (80 hectares) of land at Snarlton Farm near Melksham to install 170,000 solar panels.

Wiltshire County Council officers had been recommended to approve the application but it was rejected on the grounds of its scale and visual impact.

The developer said the site would produce enough power for 11,000 homes.
