Woman killed in A64 Barton crash named by police

A 57-year-old woman who died after a collision on the A64 in North Yorkshire has been named by police.

Glennis Hackney, from Bury, Lancashire, was a passenger in a Volkswagen Golf being driven by her husband when it collided with a Peugeot 307.

Police said the accident happened at about 1530 BST Monday on the eastbound carriageway at Barton crossroads.

Mrs Hackney was airlifted to hospital but later died. An inquest into her death has been opened and adjourned.

Mrs Hackney's husband was uninjured. Three other passengers in the car, a woman and two boys aged nine and six, were taken to York District Hospital with minor injuries.

A girl aged five, travelling in the Peugeot, was airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries.

The male driver of the Peugeot was uninjured but a woman passenger and a nine-year-old girl were taken to York District Hospital with minor injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
