Killed man hit by cyclist in Ampleforth identified

A pedestrian who died after he was hit by a cyclist in North Yorkshire has been named by police.

Michael Eldred Gubbins, 72, was crossing Station Road in the village of Ampleforth when he was hit by the cyclist at about 1630 BST on Tuesday.

Mr Gubbins, from Ampleforth, suffered head injuries and was taken by air ambulance to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, where he later died.

Police said an inquest was opened and adjourned on Thursday.

The 42-year-old cyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to Friarage Hospital.
